Without Bill O'Reilly, there may not be a Stephen Colbert as we know him, and the late-night host made sure to take note of the Fox host's dismissal. "I spent over nine years playing a character based largely on him," Colbert said, per CNN. "And then 12 months in therapy to debloviate myself." Colbert said the move is "like looking at your front yard and the big oak tree is just gone. I'm sure the oak tree said some disturbing things about young black men with their rap music and their neck tattoos, but damn it, the tree had been there forever." See the video here. Colbert was not alone, as the Hollywood Reporter notes:

  • Trevor Noah of the Daily Show said O'Reilly "was so racist it sometimes became funny," and played a "best of" clip. See it here.
  • Jimmy Kimmel envisions a Guillerm O’Factor replacement show with his own show's popular bit character.
  • James Corden of the Late Late Show applauded the network's "very strict 28-strikes-and-you're-out" rule.
  • Samantha Bee of Full Frontal corrected O'Reilly's public statement.
