(Newser) – A spectacular new video is giving the internet a view of the Grand Canyon like it's never seen it before: filled to the brim with clouds. The Arizona Republic reports the phenomenon is known as cloud inversion. It happens when a layer of warm air traps cold air close the ground, creating fog. "It’s kind of like another planet, practically, the way it looks," says Harun Mehmedinovic, who shot the video. Mehmedinovic visited the Grand Canyon 30 times in order to capture a full cloud inversion. He says he spent the day trying to convince disappointed tourists that seeing the Grand Canyon full of clouds was even better than the traditional view. Mehmedinovic's video was first shared by BBC Earth on May 3.
