Two and a half months in, how is Neil Gorsuch doing on the Supreme Court? The consensus seems to be that he's making his mark already. A sample of the coverage as the court's term ended Monday:

  • CNN says Gorsuch is "no ordinary junior-most justice," noting that he's jumped right in and is already making good on President Trump's promise to add a strong conservative voice to the high court. The site runs down his actions on the court, including a recent dissent he wrote in a gay marriage case.
  • Bloomberg says Gorsuch has "aligned himself with arch-conservative Justice Clarence Thomas," noting that both justices recently criticized the majority of the court for not allowing Trump's full travel ban to go into effect immediately. The site also calls him "aggressive," and says he is "confirming [liberals'] worst fears."

  • The Los Angeles Times calls Gorsuch "the new Antonin Scalia," adding that it's rare to get the "full sense" of a new justice so early in his tenure.
  • Per FiveThirtyEight, Gorsuch "has paid dividends for Trump more than perhaps any other move the president has made." He's certainly one of the most conservative voices on the court, and may even end up to the right of Scalia.
  • The San Francisco Chronicle looks specifically at four cases in which Gorsuch "made his mark" Monday—the travel ban case, plus cases on California’s gun law, lesbian parents, and a religious school’s use of taxpayer funds.
  • The conservative Washington Examiner says Gorsuch did not disappoint in the aforementioned religious liberty case, which it takes a closer look at, while the Daily Caller says he has so far "deliver[ed] for conservatives."
  • Meanwhile, the Huffington Post calls Gorsuch "the anti-LGBTQ nightmare his gay friends hoped he wasn’t," and the Hill notes that a Democratic senator recently compared Gorsuch, Thomas, and Samuel Alito to "the three horsemen of the apocalypse."
