(Newser) – Three days after a 20-year-old college student's parents found her murdered in her Pittsburgh apartment, the woman's ex-boyfriend was arrested four states away, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. According to WPXI, Alina Sheykhet had filed for a protection from abuse order against 21-year-old Matthew Darby last month. Police in South Carolina arrested Darby shortly before 1am Wednesday after someone called 911 regarding a man "tampering with a window" at a home in Myrtle Beach. After apprehending Darby, police learned he was wanted on a homicide charge in Pennsylvania. Darby is facing new charges of loitering, resisting arrest, and being a fugitive. There is no word on a timeline for his possible extradition to Pennsylvania, WTAE reports.

Police say Darby arrived at the off-campus apartment of Sheykhet, a University of Pittsburgh student, in the early morning hours of Sunday via a car service. He allegedly had the driver wait for him while he entered Sheykhet's bedroom and killed her using two knives and a claw hammer. At some point, police say Darby called the driver and asked him in a whisper to remain a little longer, but the driver left. Police found the three weapons in the sewer near Sheykhet's apartment. At the time of Sheykhet's murder, Darby was out on bond on rape and trespassing charges in previous incidents, including one in which he allegedly broke into Sheykhet's apartment last month. He had been in court for the rape charge as recently as Friday. He was not granted bond during a hearing Wednesday following his arrest in South Carolina.
