The obituaries that garner notice are often cheeky and occasionally chilly. Kathleen Dehmlow's obit falls into the latter category. Spotted by USA Today, the six-sentence piece ran Monday in Minnesota's Redwood Falls Gazette. It begins in a customary way, providing the 80-year-old's date and place of birth, her marriage, and the birth of children Gina and Jay. But sentence three introduces a twist, stating that five years into her marriage, she became pregnant by her husband's brother and moved to California. From there, the words speak for themselves:

  • "She abandoned her children, Gina and Jay who were then raised by her parents in Clements, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schunk. She passed away on May 31, 2018 in Springfield and will now face judgement. She will not be missed by Gina and Jay, and they understand that this world is a better place without her."
