Impossible to imagine: Former pro tennis player Stephanie Reece learned Friday that her ex-husband had fatally shot their two children and himself, People reports. After getting a call that their kids, Shelby, 13, and Harrison, 15, weren't in school, Reece tried reaching ex-husband Michael Hunn and finally drove to his house in Zionsville, Ind. Finding the house locked up, she called 911. That's when sheriff's deputies found Shelby and Harrison were dead in their beds and Hunn, 50, dead from a self-inflicted wound. Police say Hunn likely murdered the children in their sleep. "I can't even imagine first of all taking anybody's life and secondly taking my own children's life," says Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen. "It is unheard of."

Reece and Hunn's roughly 17-year marriage ended in November 2017 and sparked a legal battle over custody, alcohol consumption, and child payments, the Indianapolis Star reports. Court records show Reece took the children away, at least temporarily, and Hunn agreed to use a mobile breathalyzer to show he was drinking less; she also pressed him for failing to pay child support. But Nielsen says there's no record of Hunn being violent. Reece, who competed in the US Open and at Wimbledon in the 1990s, now teaches girls' tennis at Zionsville High. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the children whose lives were lost, and we ask that you join us in respecting their family time to grieve," says the Zionsville school superintendent.
