The prime minister suggests she might resign without a June 30 Brexit deal

Welcome to Britain's hell day. Facing a no-deal Brexit in only nine days, Prime Minister Theresa May called Wednesday for a delay as some lawmakers sought her resignation and others engaged in a feverish blame-fest, the Guardian reports. "Of this I am absolutely sure: you the public have had enough," May said in a televised address. "You're tired of the infighting. You're tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows. Tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit, when you have real concerns about your children's schools, our national health service, knife crime." Essentially blaming members of parliament, she concluded, "I am on your side. It is now time for MPs to decide."

And decide they apparently must, because President of the European Council Donald Tusk tentatively approved May's June 30 extension request as long as UK parliament signs off on May's negotiated Brexit deal—which British lawmakers have twice rejected, CNN notes. At an angry meeting of senior politicians that saw Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn walk out, at least two MPs suggested May needs to resign. And May herself indicated she might do so without a June 30 parliament-approved Brexit deal. "I have never been in a meeting like it, the atmosphere was extraordinary," says one MP. "She looked like Alice in Wonderland when she drank that potion, shrinking in her chair." As it stands, May will make her case to the European Council in Brussels on Thursday. (More Brexit stories.)
