(Newser) – A commuter train slammed into the rear of another during rush hour near Boston today, killing the operator of one of the trains, the Boston Globe reports. The victim, a 24-year-old woman, had been on the job less than a year. The cause remains unclear, and one person is still hospitalized. The accident follows a derailment this morning in Chicago that injured 14 and was blamed on human error—a motorman went through a stop signal.

Early morning eviction goes smoothly in Dewey Square

(NEWSER) - Occupy Boston is no more after 10 weeks. Police moved in early this morning and made quick work of dismantling what the Boston Globe called the longest continual Occupy protest in the nation. It took only about 30 minutes for police to tear down about 50 tents and begin loading camp debris into a garbage truck. Red Sox Hit With $10M Sex Abuse Lawsuit

Two batboys say ex clubhouse manager Donald Fitzpatrick attacked them at Fenway

(NEWSER) - Two men who have accused a dead Boston Red Sox clubhouse manager of sexually abusing them when they were batboys are filing a $10 million lawsuit against the team. “These were inner city kids happy to have jobs with the Red Sox,” said their lawyer yesterday. “Then they were sexually molested by Donald Fitzpatrick, a serial pedophile. It's similar to the Penn State case .” Fitzpatrick died in 2005 at the age of 76. The team settled a $3.15 million lawsuit with seven Florida men in 2003 who accused Fitzpatrick of molesting them during spring training in the 1970s, and Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty in 2002 to four counts of attempted sexual battery. The team also paid $100,000 to a former clubhouse attendant who charged that he was assaulted during a team trip. Mother says son was just defending himself from bully

(NEWSER) - A 7-year-old boy in Boston has been accused of sexual harassment, but his mother says he was just defending himself from a bully, reports the Boston Globe . The boy's mother says the incident happened on the school bus last month, when a bully choked her son, Mark, and stole his gloves. Mark, while trying to defend himself, kicked the bully in the testicles. “I think my kid was right to fight back,’’ says Tasha Lynch. “He wasn’t doing anything except protecting himself." More»

Utah Professor Watched Child Porn on Flight: Police

Fellow passenger took photo of laptop to alert cops

(NEWSER) - An engineering professor from the University of Utah was busted on a Delta flight from Salt Lake City on Saturday after a fellow passenger sent a message to alert police that he was viewing child pornography on his laptop, according to investigators. A passenger behind Grant Smith in the first-class section took a photo of what appeared on Grant's computer, and emailed it to a relative with a message to contact police, reports the Boston Globe . Grant was arrested at Logan Airport in Boston, and investigators found "disturbing images of child pornography" on his computer, said a police spokesman. He has been charged with possession of child porn and will be arraigned today. He has already been placed on administrative leave by the university. More»
