Ban on saggy pants hits fashion plates below the belt

(Newser) – In Delcambre, La., showing your skivvies is about to come with criminal consequences, thanks to a new ordinance that prohibits residents from wearing low-hanging pants. Saggy-trousered offenders may be fined $500 and risk 6 months in jail. “They’re better off taking the pants off and just wearing a dress,” the mayor says of the low-riders.

Some residents say the new law has racial overtones, and liberal bloggers are having a field day dissecting ethnic fashion codes. But the mayor promises the ban is an equal-opportunity one: “White people wear sagging pants, too."

I say make this a federal crime. Seeing young men with their pants almost hanging off is the most ridiculous "fashion statement" I have ever seen. Reply

people are making this into an issue of race...it is an issue of decency. Mothers and wives know best whats on the inside of those grungies yer wearing.I don't want yer underwear coming into contact with any of my furniture or my cars interior.Pull your pants up fool! That goes for you girls too.Just a theory on how this stupid trend started...hand me downs in the ghetto. Reply
