The Decider Has Time for a Last Hurrah

Posted Jul 1, 08 10:24 AM CDT in Opinion Politics

(Newser) – It’s comforting to think of George W. Bush as yesterday’s news, but the Decider is still very much in office and itching to tie up loose ends. These “loose ends” might include signing a treaty with Iraq, or continuing his quixotic quest for Israeli-Palestinian peace, or, more terrifyingly, attacking Iran, writes Eugene Robinson in the Washington Post.

An Iran attack looks utterly plausible. Bush has never softened his rhetoric against Tehran, and the administration didn’t exactly deny yesterday’s report that it was expanding covert operations to destabilize the country. And far from chastened, Bush has said he expects history to vindicate him. “The danger is that he will give historians more fodder... a thought that is sobering enough to send Amy Winehouse to rehab.”
