'Cupid's Cabbie' Rings Up First Engagement

Matchmaking New York taxi driver takes singles a lot further than from A to B

(Newser) – A New York City couple will soon be walking down the aisle thanks to a taxi driver who moonlights as a matchmaker, the Wall Street Journal reports. Ahmed Ibrahim, who offers his services for free, has been trying to match up the singles who jump in his cab ever since the day in 2004 when a tearful young female passenger asked him to find her a new beau.

The first date between the newly engaged pair went badly, but Ibrahim, sensing something special, urged them to try again. "Sometimes you have a feeling and you can't explain it," he said. They hit it off starting with the second date. The night the groom-to-be popped the question, he surprised his new fiancee further by inviting their families out for champagne— joined, of course, by the cabbie who started it all.
