(Newser) – The former Portuguese police chief who led the investigation into British tyke Madeleine McCann's disappearance will release a book on the case which he claims will contain "‘explosive revelations," the Guardian reports. The book, True Lies by Gonçalo Amaral, is believed to contain attacks on British police for caving into pressure to follow fruitless leads demanded by Maddy's parents.

Amaral was removed from the case and now faces perjury charges after a suspect in an earlier case claimed she was beaten into confessing that she killed her daughter. Portuguese police are expected to announce tomorrow that they have terminated the investigation into Maddy's disappearance without an arrest. Maddy, 3, vanished 15 months ago during a family vacation.
