(AP) – Michelle Wie, playing her best golf of the year, forgot to sign her scorecard and was disqualified from the State Farm Classic in Illinois. Wie, 18, had finished the third round only one shot behind the leader. "I don't know why or how it happened," said Wie, who took no questions. Said the LPGA official who delivered the bad news to the teenager: "She was like a little kid after you tell them there's no Santa Claus."

Wie will miss out on a hefty paycheck. The winner gets $255,000 and second place pays $155,000, amounts that would have virtually guaranteed her a place on the LPGA Tour next year. Wie remains a part-time player trying to become a full-fledged tour member for the first time.
