Obama Prays at Wailing Wall

Posted Jul 24, 08 3:18 AM CDT in Politics World

(Newser) – Barack Obama finished his Israel trip with a pre-dawn visit to Jerusalem's Western Wall this morning, Reuters reports. The candidate, wearing a skullcap, placed a prayer he had written in the wall as a rabbi read from a psalm. A heckler shouted "Jerusalem is not for sale"—but was drowned out by chants of  "O-ba-ma, O-ba-ma."

Obama had earlier hailed Israel as "a miracle" and vowed his staunch support for the nation. He also held a low-key meeting with Palestinian leaders in the West Bank. He flies to Germany today where he will give the only public speech of his world tour. Tens of thousands of Berliners are expected to gather for his address in the Tiergarten, within sight of the iconic Brandenburg Gate.
