(Newser) – Like Darth Vader striking down Obi-Wan, the Newser Ninjas bowling team shut out the HighBeam Highlanders in the first annual HighBeam Subsidiary Bowling Tournament of Champions. The tournament was to be a best-of-three matchup, but the Ninjas only needed two rounds to finish the job, scoring more than 1,000 points during regulation play. The Highlanders, the heavy favorite, struggled to surpass 900.

The crowd turned early and often. "I'm cheering for Newser now!" remarked the HighBeam Research CEO after a particularly savvy spare by the Ninja team. When it was clear that the Ninjas would win, the HighBeam office administrator (shared by Newser) was heard saying "I should have played for the Newser team." Consistent play by all Ninja team members clinched this startup's place in history.

The charge apparently grew out of an argument Joseph Bray had with his wife—whose birthday he failed to acknowledge. According to the arrest report, Bray shoved his wife onto the couch, held her neck, and readied himself for a punch, but didn't actually hit her. At the hearing this week, she told Judge Jay Hurley she was neither hurt nor in fear. 3 Chicago high school students busted for hate crime, assault

(NEWSER) - Three Chicago teenagers have been arrested after placing a noose around a black student's neck at knifepoint because of his relationship with a white girl, according to law enforcement authorities. “I feel they were serious, and that if I didn’t get out of the house when I did, I might not even be here. I might be dead,” Joshua Merritt, 17, told the Chicago Tribune . The three students, ages 16 to 18, have been hit with a variety of charges, including hate crimes, unlawful restraint, assault, and battery. The girl at the center of the confrontation is the cousin of one of the teens. The assault occurred at his house, and his mother is an administrative worker in the Cook County state attorney's office, said police. More»

7 Chicago Teens Charged in Beating Video on YouTube

(NEWSER) - Brutality and stupidity isn't a charming combination, but it certainly makes things easier for the police. Seven Chicago teens are being charged over a YouTube video that shows a group of teens beating a 17-year-old in an alley, reports the Chicago Tribune . The teen is kicked, punched, and taunted for several minutes before he manages to escape. Police say the victim was robbed of $180 and his shoes—which the gang beat him with. One 17-year-old boy is being charged as an adult; the remaining five boys and a girl, ages 15 and 16, are being treated as minors. More»
