Family Says Maine Victims Include Dad, 14-Year-Old Son

Police haven't named the 18 people killed in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday night but family members have been sharing details of loved ones lost in the deadliest mass shooting in state history. Police say the gunman killed seven people at the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, formerly called Sparetime Recreation, and eight others at Schemengees Bar and Grille, the AP reports. Three others died after they were taken to hospitals.

• Father Leroy Walker Sr. says his son, 57-year-old bar manager Louis Walker, was fatally shot, the New York Times reports. He says police told his son's widow that he "died a hero" after picking up a butcher's knife and trying to stop the gunman.

• The bar was busy with cornhole players Wednesday night and Keri Brooks says her younger brother, 40-year-old Bryan MacFarlane, was one of four members of the American Deaf Cornhole team killed on Wednesday, reports the Portland Press Herald. Other team members killed include Bill Bracket and Steven Vozzella, ABC News reports.
• Michael Deslauriers Sr. says his son, Michael Deslauriers, was fatally shot at the bowling alley. He says his son and a friend made sure their wives and children were safe before they were killed, CBS News reports.
• It was youth night at the bowling alley, and at least one teenager was killed, NBC Boston reports. Pennsylvania resident Kim McConville says the family was told Thursday that her cousin Bill Young and his 14-year-old son Aaron were among the victims.

• Friends say the bowling alley's manager was also killed. Adam Stoddard tells the Press Herald that Thomas Conrad, a military veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was killed trying to stop the gunman, according to the bowling alley's owners. "He was great with all of the bowling community kids," Stoddard says. "He loved them so much he put his life in harm's way to charge the gunman and save the children who were there. He died a hero."
• Another victim at the bowling alley was 76-year-old retiree Bob Violette, whose daughter confirmed Thursday that he had been fatally shot, the AP reports. Violette ran a youth bowling league and witnesses say he was shot when he put himself between the gunman and the kids in his league, the Press-Herald reports.
• DJ Johnson tells CNN that his sister, a part-time worker at the bowling alley, was bowling for fun when she was fatally shot. He says 53-year-old Tricia Asselin was shot after she ran to the counter to try to call 911.
• Arthur Bernard says his oldest son, father of five Arthur Strout, is among the victims, WBZ News reports. He says he heard about the shooting just minutes after leaving the bar, where his son was playing pool.
