'Best Security Guard' at College Will Be Able to Visit His Family
Providence College, Rhode Island   (Providence College)

Students at Providence College have shown their appreciation to their dorm's overnight security guard by helping him to see his family in Nigeria for the first time in 11 years. Brandon Reichert, a freshman, said he created a GoFundMe page to raise money for the trip after James Mogaji told him he hadn't visited home in more than a decade, WGHP reports. A viral TikTok video shows Mogaji, overcome, falling to his knees when presented with $3,000. "I don't know how much I can thank you guys," he says. One student tells him, "You're part of the family," and the group says, "We love you, James."

Reichert called Mogaji, who works four overnight shifts a week, "without a doubt the best security guard" at the Rhode Island school. "He greets everybody with a smile and always welcomes conversations no matter what time of the night you run into him," the GoFundMe page says, per the Providence Journal. The guard is "just someone you're drawn toward," said Daniel Singh, a sophomore, adding: "You have parents, cousins, relatives and other people donating that wouldn't even know who James is. It really speaks to how moving he is and how moving the community can be." People are still donating, and the money beyond what's needed for the June trip to Nigeria will go toward Mogaji's next one. In thanking the students, he told them he'll "continue to protect you guys." (More college students stories.)
