Son of Rap Pioneer Dr. Dre Dead at 20

Andre Young Jr. found after night with friends; cause unknown

(Newser) – The son of rap icon Dr. Dre died this weekend in his home northwest of Los Angeles, the Times reports. Andre R. Young Jr., 20, was found dead in his bed Saturday morning after being out with friends the previous evening, an official said; tests to determine cause of death have not yet been completed.

Dr. Dre is credited with bringing Los Angeles-area gangsta rap to the mainstream in the 1980s with group NWA; later, he helped produce successful acts like Eminem and Snoop Dogg.

"Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr. Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time," a representative for the rap pioneer told a hip-hop web site.   (AP Photo)
