Six-Game Streak Cheers Mercurial Cubs

Posted Jun 28, 07 4:42 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – On a six-game streak heading into a showdown with the division-leading Brewers, the Cubs completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies behind resurgent ace Carlos Zambrano. Since bloodying the lip of his catcher Michael Barrett and (subsequently) getting a new catcher, Zambrano has been on a roll, winning four games of five.

The Cubs' run is also due also in part to the surprising performance of diminutive rookie Mike Fontenot, who is batting .408 in the two-spot since his call-up three weeks ago. Said Zambrano of Fontenot: "He hits the ball like a man. I feel happy for him."
