Romney Blasts Liberal Washington

(Newser) – Mitt Romney, once a top contender for each of the top spots on the Republican ticket, took to the stage tonight to shore up John McCain's conservative credentials and hammer home the point that "liberals don't have a clue," CNN reports. "We need change all right, change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington," he said. The McCain-Palin ticket, he added, "will never allow America to retreat in the face of religious extremism."

Romney also took a veiled shot at Michelle Obama and her remark during the primaries that her husband's campaign made her proud of America for the first time. "Just like you, there has never been a day when I was not proud to be an American. We inherited the greatest nation in the history of the Earth. It is our burden and privilege to preserve it, to renew its spirit so that its noble past is prologue to its glorious future."
