Coney Island Rides Hit Auction Block

Posted Sep 7, 08 6:43 PM CDT in US Arts & Living Business

(Newser) – Ever dreamed of owning your own theme-park ride? With 10 of Coney Island’s famed Astroland Park rides now for sale online, your chance has arrived, the New York Post reports. The Astrotower will set you back $99,000, while the Top Spin will leave your wallet $499,000 lighter. Altogether, the 10 are on offer for the bargain-basement price of $2.7 million.

Astroland is set to close today following a 2006 buyout. But neither the City of New York nor the New York Aquarium was interested in taking the Astrotower—even though it was offered for free. "I have 16 trailers of everything from pink teddy bears to tools, and almost all of this is for sale," said Astroland's operater, who failed to negotiate a new lease with the current owner.
