Mac Misleads in Obama Sex-Ed Ad

Posted Sep 10, 08 11:49 AM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – John McCain’s new campaign ad accusing Barack Obama of voting to teach kindergarten kids the explicit details of sex, is “deliberately misleading,” Margaret Talev notes for McClatchy. While in the Illinois legislature, Obama voted in favor “age-appropriate” sex ed—which for young kids would primarily consist of being able to recognize inappropriate adult affection.

Republican Alan Keyes also attempted to use the vote against Obama in the 2004 Illinois Senate race, Frank James writes in the Swamp blog; Mosheh Oinounou, writing for Fox News, calls the ad “stinging though slightly misleading criticism.” An Obama spokesman slammed the spot as a “shameful” use of a “recycled and discredited political attack”—noting that Mitt Romney used the line before it was revealed he’d supported similar legislation.

It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls. - Bill Burton, Obama spokesman
