Angels Clinch AL West

Posted Sep 10, 08 7:35 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Los Angeles Angels clinched the AL West today for the fourth time in 5 years, the LA Times reports. The Angels knocked off the Yankees, 4-2, then returned to the clubhouse to watch as Seattle beat Texas to eliminate the Rangers from division contention.

Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 56th save, leaving him one shy of the league record. As for the Yanks, they finish their road trip 5-5, making it likely they will miss the playoffs for the first time in 13 years.
