(Newser) – Disney has asked Nicholas Sparks, author of The Notebook and Message in a Bottle, to write a screenplay tailor-made to star Miley Cyrus in an attempt to sell the tween queen to a more adult audience, Variety reports.

“Certain opportunities garner your interest, and this was one of those,” Sparks said of the untitled effort. The Cyrus family was “very familiar with the work I’ve done in the past. That played a role in this project coming together.”

In a meeting with Disney execs, Miley Cyrus mentioned Sparks' A Walk to Remember as the kind of movie she envisions as a vehicle for her transition from teen pop star to serious actress.

This is similar to the way it%u2019s gone with movies based on my novels; it%u2019s just out of order, Sparks said. Certain opportunities garner your interest, and this was one of those.
