Blogging Pitcher Should Stick to Sports

(Newser) – Curt Schilling may be headed for retirement, but that hasn't stopped the pitcher-turned-blogger from tackling politics—he's a big McCain fan—and pressing issues such as Manny Ramirez. The moonshot outfielder "had not been a member of the Red Sox for over a month" when Schilling last weighed in, Charles P. Pierce writes for the Boston Globe's new sports weekly, OT, describing them as "both first-ballot Hall of Famers" (the phone lines are open!).

"It would be to everybody’s benefit if Curt and his opinions would absent themselves to the Fox News Channel or to the moons of Neptune until the elections are over and the Red Sox are finished with this baseball playoff business," Pierce writes. "If he doesn’t, it’s going to be a long couple of months."

"Asking Curt Schilling to substitute self-aggrandizement for discretion is like asking a goose to abandon honking in order to whistle Mozart," Charles Pierce writes of the Red Sox pitcher.   (AP Photo)
Though the Red Sox traded Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers in July, pitcher Curt Schilling seems to have accumulated enough venom that he's still blogging about the outfielder.   (AP Photo)
