Convict's betting prompted league-wide integrity investigation

(Newser) – No NBA referee other than Tim Donaghy, who’s currently serving time for gambling, has been up to anything illegal in the sport, a 14-month league probe has found. But the report’s author did have some suggestions for keeping the game clean, including a hotline for tips on suspicious activity and more access to referees for fans and the media, USA Today reports.

Investigator Andy Pedowitz “did hear from NBA team representatives that referees' egos have gotten in the way of their play-calling,” he noted. “That's the perception. I'm not saying it's valid. But if it's there, it should be dealt with.”

German Ford Plants Raided in Corruption Probe

Staff homes also searched amid bribe accusations

(NEWSER) - German authorities raided Ford plants and the homes of Ford employees and suppliers today as part of a corruption investigation, the Wall Street Journal reports. Some 100 police officers took part in the search of more than 30 locations; one person was arrested, a prosecutor said. Ford staff have allegedly received “material advantages” from allied companies or companies pursuing contracts with the automaker, according to prosecutors. More»

(NEWSER) - Tom DeLay is probably doing a little dance right now. The Justice Department has informed DeLay that it has ended its six-year investigation into his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, and won’t be filing any charges. “This was one of the longest and expensive and thorough investigations in recent memory,” DeLay’s lead counsel complained to Politico , though he admitted the government had “played fair.” More»

(AP) - Tennis authorities are telling participants in the US Open, which begins Monday, to watch their tweeting. Signs are posted in the players' lounge, locker rooms and referee's office at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with the header: "Important. Player Notice. Twitter Warning." The signs, written by the Tennis Integrity Unit, point out that Twitter messages could violate the sport's anti-corruption rules. More»
