Cops say she skipped diner bill, left purse behind—with weed in it

(Newser) – Miss Louisiana Teen USA's reign is ending early, TMZ reports. Lindsey Evans was arrested over the weekend after she and friends allegedly skipped out on a restaurant bill—and cops found pot in the purse she left behind. Pageant officials weren't impressed, saying the organization “believes in opportunities when earned and consequences when warranted.” Evans’ term would have ended in 10 days.

(NEWSER) - What were they smoking? A four-seater Cessna plane hauling marijuana yesterday strayed into restricted airspace designed to protect President Obama, who was flying on Marine One; the small plane was intercepted by fighter jets. The incident occurred as the president was traveling in the helicopter from Orange County to Los Angeles International Airport, reports the Los Angeles Times . Authorities attempted repeatedly to contact the Cessna 182. When the pilot failed to respond, two F-16s forced the aircraft to land nearby at Long Beach Airport, where it was met by law enforcement. (NEWSER) - Smoking marijuana three hours or less before getting behind the wheel nearly doubles your chance of a major car crash, a study suggests. It's the first study to look at the link between cannabis and crash risk, the Canadian researchers believe. They examined study data for more than 49,000 collision victims, limiting their research to crashes that didn't involve alcohol, CBC reports. "The level of impairment might not be as severe as alcohol intoxication, but it's there and it does require a public health response," says an expert. More»

(NEWSER) - The VFW is stirring up quite a bit of controversy—no, not Veterans of Foreign Wars, but Veterans for Weed. In addition to co-opting the VFW acronym, the pro-marijuana-legalization group also uses a logo that looks like the POW/MIA icon, except with the soldier smoking a joint. The real VFW has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the group, and because "VFW" is copyrighted, the tokers may have to comply with the acronym part.
