Fat Stem Cells Used to Grow Breasts

Posted Jul 10, 07 6:11 AM CDT in US Business Science & Health

(Newser) – Bigger breasts—even new breasts—can be grown using a new treatment that extracts stem cells from fat in the stomach or buttocks, the BBC reports. The breakthrough could help women who have had mastectomies, or rival implants for those seeking bigger breasts.

In the hour-long procedure, dubbed Celution, stem cells are injected into a breast which continues to grow over 6 months. It's already been performed on 19 Japanese women, and could be available in Europe as early as 2008. Some experts urge caution. "We need to find out how these cells work once they are in the breast," said a surgeon.
