(Newser) – Is Joaquin Phoenix bowing out of show biz? "I want to take this opportunity (to) just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor. I'm not doing films anymore," the two-time Oscar nominee told Extra unexpectedly at Monday night's Paul Newman benefit.

As Extra's reporter did a double-take, Phoenix, who had his own camera crews trailing him, reiterated, "Yeah. I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that." "I don't think he's kidding," says actor Casey Affleck. "He's got music and stuff." Phoenix's rep later confirmed only by saying: "That is what he told me."
