5 Homeless Killed in Calif. Massacre

Three men and two women were shot dead yesterday in a mystery massacre at a California homeless encampment in Long Beach. Several residents in the area heard shouts, screams, and so many gunshots it sounded like fireworks, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Investigators are seeking the help of a man who called police from a pay phone to report the crime and may have more information. "If you are listening to me out there, please come forward for the sake of their families," said a police spokesman. Last month a Los Angeles homeless man was doused with gasoline and burned to death. No one has been arrested in that case.
