(Newser) – John McCain released his first public statement today since conceding the election, congratulating President-elect Barack Obama and urging supporters to work together with the new administration, the Hill reports. “Although we were disappointed with the results,” the joint statement with wife Cindy said, “we must move beyond this campaign and work together to get our country moving again.”

“We urge you to join us in not just congratulating Sen. Obama, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together as a nation,” the McCains wrote. “Whatever our differences may be, we are all fellow Americans.”
