(Newser) – The news of yet another suspension for unseemly behavior caught up with Ron Artest on an African goodwill mission, serving rice to starving children in Kenya and caring for HIV-positive babies. Artest expressed contrition for the suspension, the result of a domestic violence charge levelled by his wife, but also satisfaction with his charitable work.

Sacramento GM Geoff Petrie has vowed to keep Artest for the upcoming season, applauding the forward's newfound sense of propriety and empathy. The eight-year veteran said he planned to buy a house in Kenya to return in coming summers, and implored the media, "Please recognize the other side of Ron Artest."

Kenyatta is accused of ordering a militia to carry out mass murder and rape after the disputed contest. 7 Die as Kenyan Boat Capsizes

A dozen passengers still missing, feared dead

(AP) - Rescue personnel scoured Kenya's coastal waters today after a passenger boat collided with a ship carrying oil drums and capsized, killing at least seven people. Kenya's Red Cross said 82 people were on the capsized boat. More than a dozen people were missing and feared dead; 48 survived. The boat capsized yesterday around 9pm near the resort town of Lamu, which lies on Kenya's Indian Ocean coastline near the border with Somalia. More»

Speculation is rampant that the attack might be the work of Somali militants retaliating against Kenya’s incursion into the country last week, but so far officials are not publicly blaming al-Shabab or any other militant group, the New York Times reports. (NEWSER) - The wheelchair-bound French tourist kidnapped by Somali gunmen earlier this month died in captivity, France said today. Marie Dedieu, 66, was a quadriplegic and required medication every six hours. Though the French government attempted to send her prescriptions to her and well-wishers offered to bring the medicine to where she was being held, her captors refused to give it to her, the Telegraph reports.
