Web Users Still Can't Get Enough Palin

GOP candidate still dominates web searches

(Newser) – We just can't seem to let Sarah Palin go. Nearly a month after the election, she continues to dominate user lookups on search engines, cable news sites, and YouTube, reports Politico. Alaska's governor ranks near the top of virtually every major search tool, including Yahoo, AOL, and Lycos, where she dominated the incoming president until just last week. “People are still searching for her in record numbers,” said a Lycos spokeswoman. “How bizarre is that?"

Earlier this month, Palin brought a 928% spike in traffic to the Anchorage Daily News website. The attention—even among those finding videos to mock her—presents opportunity for the celebrity politician, says an online politics buff: "There's a heckuva lot of wind out there for Sarah Palin. Now she has to put up a sail to catch it."

Microsoft, Yahoo, and Aol have agreed to a deal that will let them sell each other’s display ads, in a bid to drive revenue up and help them compete with Google and Facebook. A Microsoft VP characterized the deal as a "rising tide that lifts all boats"; Reuters notes that the companies would still be competing with each other for ad spending and publishing partners. Alaska Paying to Help Defend Palin in Lawsuit

She's being sued by activist who complained about traffic

(NEWSER) - Sarah Palin may be the former governor of Alaska, but she's getting the state's legal help in the present. Activist Chip Thoma is suing Palin for at least $100,000, for what he says was her role at the helm of a campaign to "punish, embarrass, discredit, and silence" him after he griped about tour bus traffic that swamped the narrow streets around the governor's mansion following her failed 2008 bid for VP. Assistant Attorney General Dale House says it's not unusual for the state to get involved when a suit stems from something a person did in the course of official duties. More»
