(Newser) – Hollywood found a new way to protest California’s passage of anti-gay-marriage Proposition 8: song and dance, the AP reports. Prop 8: The Musical, posted on FunnyOrDie, features Jack Black as Jesus reminding the religious right that shrimp cocktail is also a Biblical “abomination.” The hero of the day is gay-in-real-life Neil Patrick Harris, convincing everyone that “gay marriages will save the economy.”

Creator Marc Shaiman, Tony Award-winning composer of Hairspray, was boycotting a nonprofit musical theater company whose artistic director donated to the “Yes on 8” campaign, and was ready for a more light-hearted approach to protesting. The video’s star-studded cast also includes Margaret Cho as a supporter of gay marriage and John C Reilly as the conservative villain campaigning for Prop 8.

It was like, 'Eureka! That's right, that's what I do!' If I'm going to stand on the soap box, at least let me sing and dance. - Marc Shaiman, creator of "Prop 8: The Musical"

Saw the video - it was funny, cute and sad. That's the point isn't it? I always LOL at the way you guys harp on about majority=correct, like numbers are everything. I guess misapplications of democratic principles eventually make societies morally bankrupt - you start believing might is right, human rights are up for popular vote, and people "back a winner" rather than go with what they really believe. Well, they do say that democracy is the worst form of government (apart from all the other kinds)!

Corona_King, I am not sure where you get your "facts". Actually heterosexual marriage is much newer than gay marriage which has been around for thousands of years. Also, when you say "Go get hitched in a civil union and shut up already!" I'm concerned that you are not speaking from the correct orifice. First of all civil unions do not afford couples the same rights as marriage. If civil unions are the same then what's the problem with gay people getting married? This is about bigotry and hate, it has nothing to do with protecting marriage. Can you please give me one instance in which gay marriage would pose a threat to my heterosexual marriage? Also, this was not something that was passed by "A broad spectrum of society". If you would actually read things such as the newspaper you would find things like this from the LA Times: --------------------- "A new poll by the Public Policy Institute of California shows that the ballot measure banning gay marriage in California received its strongest support from Republicans and evangelical Christians. Among the findings: -- Evangelical or born-again Christians (85%) were far more likely than others (42%) to vote yes. -- Three in four Republicans (77%) voted yes, two in three Democrats (65%) voted no, and independents were more closely divided (52% yes, 48% no). -- Voters without a college degree (62%) were far more likely than college graduates (43%) to vote yes." --------------------- I'm also wondering what the so-called "Gay Agenda" is in your frightened little mind. In my mind this is the human agenda. We should ALL be afforded the same rights under the law. Thankfully this is going to the state Supreme Court. Oh, and by the way...you're outnumbered now. There have been numerous polls since the debate stating that if the vote were taken today on Prop 8 it would be defeated. I wouldn't be having a victory party just yet...the fight is far from over.

Corona_King.... If we live in a center right country, why would we take away the right to peaceful and somewhat humorous protests? And as long as people can protest a woman's right to have an access to healthy, safe abortions, I say people get to protest Prop 8.
