Green leaders will help America kick the oil habit, fight global warming, he says

(Newser) – Promising to end America's oil addiction and combat global warming, Barack Obama rolled out his environment and energy team today, the Boston Globe reports. He chose Nobel laureate Steven Chu for energy secretary; New Jersey official Lisa Jackson for EPA; Los Angeles deputy mayor Nancy Sutley to lead a White House environmental council; and ex-EPA chief Carol Browner to coordinate climate and energy policy.

(AP) - President Obama will nominate businessman John Bryson to lead the Commerce Department, a White House official said today. Bryson's appointment brings another private sector player into an administration that has been making a concerted effort to improve its relationship with the business community. Bryson is a former chairman and chief executive officer of Edison International, a California-based energy company. He also has an extensive background in environmental issues, having co-founded the Natural Resources Defense Council and served on a United Nations advisory group on energy and climate change. More»

(NEWSER) - Billionaire brothers David and Charles Koch have been thrust into the spotlight as of late —and though they once ran outside the typical Washington political circles, their increasing influence is now becoming more clear. That influence is most obvious in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, to which Koch Industries and its employees are the largest single oil and gas donor, contributing $279,500 to 22 Republicans on the committee and $32,000 to five Democrats.
