(NEWSER) - With the death of Mike Starr, a former Celebrity Rehab participant, the time has come to talk about why the show needs to be shut down. No, not because of Starr’s death—“If every recovery center had to close down after a former patient relapsed and died, we'd have no facilities left,” notes Drew Grant on Salon —but because it’s become completely obvious that Dr. Drew Pinsky “is not helping anyone,” Grant writes. She's not an addict, say program producers

(NEWSER) - Sorry, Michaele, your stunts won't wash with Dr. Drew. Notorious White House gate crasher Michaele Salahi has been bounced from a stint on Celebrity Rehab for not having an addiction. Salahi announced early this week she would join the next reality crew as she struggles to deal with the fallout from faking her way into a White House state dinner two years ago. But program spokesmen noted in a statement yesterday that the show's treatment regimen is "intended for individuals with serious substance abuse and addiction issues." While Salahi's representatives insisted she qualified, "professional assessments found that she did not meet such criteria," the statement added. Who says 'reality TV' isn't a serious addiction?

(NEWSER) - Bad news for bad TV addicts: Celebrity Rehab 4 is on hold until VH1 finds a big-name patient. Well, if the show agrees not to be picky about what exactly they're addicted to, Amelia McDonell-Parry of The Frisky has a few ideas:

• Spencer Pratt: "Spencer has been a certified douchebag for years, but ever since he started wearing pounds of supposedly 'magic' crystals around his neck, fingers, and in his pockets, he’s gone off the deep end."
• Tila Tequila: OK, OK, so she's already set to appear on the show for her Ambien addiction. But shouldn't we be more concerned about her Twitter addiction?

Producers give out Valtrex 'like M&Ms'

(NEWSER) - The creator of the Jersey Shore says she's constantly worried about STDs, “because I have everybody hooking up.” In a recent reality TV roundtable conducted by the Hollywood Reporter , Dr. Drew Pinsky of Celebrity Rehab fame complained that the network made him give all his patients the herpes medicine Valtrex. “We hand it out like M&Ms,” interjected Shore creator SallyAnn Salano. “'Hey kids, it's time for Valtrex!'
