All the World's Zune 30s Mysteriously Freeze Up

Bizarre bug struck mp3 players just after midnight last night

Share

(Newser) – Microsoft’s Zune has a bizarre bug: Hundreds, if not thousands of the 30G models froze up simultaneously at 12am PST, CNET reports. The MP3 players all displayed a startup status bar frozen at 100%; the timing has prompted some Zune owners to call the problem “Z2K,” after the Y2K bug.

Users on Zune forums are livid about yet another misstep for the media player. "I can't take it anymore,” wrote one on ZuneScene.com. “Listening to music is about the last thing I do with my Zune. I always have to reinstall, download new firmware, or wait for the slow software to catch up. Now this? I want to throw it away and never look back." Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is working to correct it.

From the makers of Vista's OS, Microsoft...! What else could you expect? More news... Microsoft’s now wants to lease and/or charge, 'pay as you go' on future Microsoft OS releases and Microsoft apps. That's equivalent to the likes of Oracle, etc., but Oracle writes code for mainframe clientele (industry, banking, retail, etc.). Imagine, one day, you sit down in front of your computer, which uses Microsoft’s OS and apps, and all of a sudden, you can't access anything, because Microsoft’s has written code similar to their brilliant Zune 30G! Wonderful, no?!! With Microsoft, you always get more than you bargained for! When you buy your OS and apps from one source, and your hardware from another. What do you end up with...? Ponder this... Dell cried to Microsoft when they realized their machines didn't meet Microsoft’s Vista minimum requirements. Microsoft’s CEO Ballmer, succumbed to Dell's cries, and certified their machines anyway, signing off on the authorization - with full knowledge they weren't comparable nor compatible. Now, consider HP's position, who built their line to exceed Vista's requirements. But because of Dell's immediate failures, Vista failed, therefore HP sat on inventory they can't move, and are in litigation with, guess who... Microsoft! . But wait, there's a silver lining in all this... HP has apparently been caught selling hardware to Iran, for which they are banned by a Federal mandated embargo from doing... I guess in the end... What comes around, goes around, and around again... BTW, I'm a Mac, and d*mn happy to be one, too! Both my software and hardware designed specifically to work in conjunction with one another. My apps are based on the same premiss, too! I',m also an iPod, iPhone, and who knows what my next Earth shattering breakthrough will be next, so everyone else can try to copy me... Seriously consider your options, next time... Reply
