(Newser) – Danny Davis wants to be a US senator, but not badly enough to accept an appointment from Rod Blagojevich. The disgraced governor’s attorney met with Davis and offered him Barack Obama’s seat last Wednesday, the US rep tells the Chicago Sun-Times. Davis had lobbied for the seat when he thought Blagojevich was dealing fairly but said after Blagojevich’s arrest that he wouldn’t take the job if offered.

Davis says he met with Blagojevich’s attorney out of “respect.” On Friday, they met again, and Davis told him he wasn’t interested. “I just decided there was too much turmoil, too much disagreement,” he says. “It was something I wanted to do, but I said I would not take an appointment from the governor.” It also helped that Senate Democrats have vowed not to seat any Blagojevich appointee.
