In his first big-league start since being diagnosed with cancer last year, Boston lefty Jon Lester allowed only five hits in six innings on his way to a 6-2 win last night in Cleveland. The Sox staked the 23-year-old to a four-run lead, and Coco Crisp's four-run night helped secure the win for the AL East leaders.
Lester, who underwent treatment for lymphoma after the abrupt end of his rookie season, chalked up six strikeouts in his return, with three walks and one HBP. He yielded just two earned runs, on a Grady Sizemore blast in the third. Manny Delcarmen recorded his first big-league save to keep Boston 7½ games ahead of New York.
