(Newser) – Tom Cruise mourns the sudden death of John Travolta’s son and defends Scientology in an appearance on The View taped to air tomorrow, ABC News reports. "It's just horrific. Here you have a man, both of them doting parents, they're wonderful people and…” Cruise says, trailing off. He dismisses the notion that religious views played a role in Jett's care.

"That's just not true," says Cruise, adding that Scientology encourages conventional medical care. "They say, 'Get your physical, get your medication, get your physical illnesses handled.’” As for Jett memories: "I saw him when he was just a few months old and John just adored him, and both of his children, and Kelly. I just don't have the words for it."

Scientologists are flexible about whether the body or ashes must be present at the funeral. There can even just be a picture of the person. Certainly, non-Scientologists can come to the funeral. - professor Stephen Kent

We should all feel SO much better now that Dr. Cruise has weighed in on this. What he fails to mention is Scientologists are strongly urged to see only MD's who are Scientologists, who prescribe things like exercise for Down's syndrome kids. Ridiculous.
