Sasha, Malia Dolls Not Modeled on Obamas: Maker

It’s just coincidence that new dolls released by the makers of Beanie Babies are named Sweet Sasha and Marvelous Malia, and “there’s nothing on the dolls that refers to the Obama girls,” a company spokeswoman insists. Still, fascination with the real-life First Daughters will surely fuel a craze for the bronze-skinned miniatures, a doll-seller tells the AP.

“Girls all over the world, of all colors, will be looking for these dolls,” she continues. “They want to identify with these two girls.” The Sasha doll has pigtails and dons a dress, while elder Malia boasts a side ponytail and trendy capri pants. They join the ranks of other fortuitously named TyGirlz like Lindsay, Britney, Paris, Hillary, and Jenna. (More Sasha Obama stories.)
