The Yankees dealt reliever Scott Proctor to the Dodgers yesterday, in exchange for infielder Wilson Betemit. Proctor, who will likely be replaced by minor-league righty Edwar Ramirez, had struggled in the Bronx, giving up four home runs in his last six outings. The Yanks are hoping to add depth to their backup roster with the versatile Betemit.

Meanwhile, other clubs have kept busy in this eleventh hour before the trade deadline: Atlanta nabbed slugger Mark Teixeira in a seven-player deal with Texas, and Kansas City sent Octavio Dotel to the Braves for righty Kyle Davies. At 4.5 games behind the Mets in the NL East, Atlanta hopes to gain an edge with its new offensive and defensive stars. (More New York Yankees stories.)
