US Missiles Kill 8 Militants in Pakistan

Islamabad complains that drone strikes help Taliban

(Newser) – An American drone attack today killed at least eight militants in a Pakistani tribal area, Reuters reports. "There are 'guests' among the dead," an anonymous intelligence official says, referring to non-Pakistani militants. The missile assault struck either a house or a bunker in South Waziristan, a Pakistani Taliban bastion near the Afghan border.

Despite protests from Islamabad that such missile strikes are bolstering local support for the Taliban, the Obama administration has continued the attacks, which began in earnest a year ago. Pakistani officials have asked to assume control of the drone technology.

As for this article itself, I greatly disagree with bombings. Fareed Zakaria interview Imran Khan, an outsider Pakistani politician, and he says that all the bombings does is further anti-US sentiment. The aid doesn't get to the people who need it so the US never gets credit. And the Pak. gov't is just a stooge in the eyes of the Pak. people. A RAND corporation study says that only 8% of terrorist conflicts have been resolved through combat/bombings. We need diplomacy and intelligence!! Stephen Harper, the Canadian PM, today said that we will never defeat the insurgency through war. What we need to do is isolate the Taliban from Al Qaeda. The Taliban are awful people, but they are not technically terrorists. Al Qaeda are the real enemy and we need to isolate and crush them before we deal with the Taliban and nation building in Afghanistan/Pakistan.

Martin Wolf, Paul Krugman, and many other of the world's best economists say the stimulus bill wasn't big ENOUGH. They said it should've been about 4 times bigger (700B per year) for a $14T economy. So learn from people who know instead of Rush Limbaugh and his band of idiots. When the private sector isn't spending because of years of greed and mismanagement, the only entity that can is the gov't. The disagreements in the bill amounted to a mere fraction of the bill. The Reps just used it for political grandstanding.
