Barkley Leaves Jail

(AP) – Former NBA star Charles Barkley was released from jail this morning after serving a three-day sentence in Phoenix on a drunken-driving conviction. He began his sentence Saturday morning, and spent about 36 hours in jail after getting 12 hours of work release yesterday and today. He was housed in a separate tent from the other inmates for his safety, and meals were brought to him.

The 46-year-old Barkley pleaded guilty last month to two misdemeanor DUI charges stemming from a Dec. 31 arrest in which he failed a field-sobriety test after leaving a Scottsdale nightclub. A judge reduced Barkley's original 10-day sentence to three days, provided that he completes an alcohol-treatment program.

(NEWSER) - A man spotted driving erratically on a stretch of New Mexico highway notorious for drunk-driving deaths was hogtied by a witness until police arrived. The man, seen barely avoiding head-on collisions as he drove southbound in northbound lanes, was confronted by fellow motorists when he pulled over at a convenience store. (NEWSER) - A kayak fisherman rescued a dog that fled into the Gulf of Mexico after its jogging owner was killed by a drunk driver. Rory O'Connor found the traumatized Vizsla swimming about half a mile from Florida's Siesta Key. "He was in a lot of distress," O'Connor tells WTSP . "He was shaking, and I thought it was because he was cold, but he was traumatized. He was also pretty beat up. His legs were bloody."
