Legend sang Edelweiss for daughter

Share

(Newser) – Vanessa Redgrave serenaded Natasha Richardson with a lullaby from The Sound of the Music in her final moments, the Daily Mail reports. Redgrave caressed her daughter’s face as she sang the melody from "Edelweiss," which she had performed for Richardson’s first marriage 19 years ago.

Redgrave will go ahead with plans to star in a special performance of The Year of Magical Thinking, by Joan Didion, next month. The legendary actress will play a mother who loses her daughter, the New York Post reports.

That's very sad, and very sweet. Natasha, by all accounts, was a lovely woman...and she was a great actor, unsurprisingly. I feel for anyone who loses their child. Your hope is the natural order of things plays out and you go before them, but of course, it doesn't always go that way. Reply

this is too much information. Can't we give these people some privacy? We have no right to invade their personal lives in this way. Reply

I think we all do connect in these moments, and no one cares where the sympathy comes from. So why don't the ones who have nothing to say simply go away? Reply
