Fourth Oakland Officer Brain Dead

By the Associated Press

Posted Mar 22, 2009 2:31 PM CDT

(AP) – A fourth Oakland police officer was declared brain dead today after a parolee with a "criminal history" opened fire at a traffic stop and later gunned down members of a team searching for him. Oakland Police officer John Hege, 41, was gravely injured yesterday, capping a day of violence that the Oakland Police Department said was the worst in its history. Never before had three police officers died in the line of duty on the same day.

Doctors were keeping Hege alive on life support today. "It's in these moments that words are extraordinarily inadequate," said Mayor Ron Dellums at a somber news conference.

No blood lust here. And I did miss that point, sorry. But, I for one, wasn't commenting on this case in particular. In general, I believe that the death penalty is NOT a deterrent to crime, it is simply the price you have to pay for taking someone else's life. So I have no problem with the death penalty. Especially with the death of someone out there trying to protect me.

I'm black and don't know the race of the cops or assailants and frankly it does not matter, either way i'm all for a slow cook in the the electric chair. Ahhhh those were the days.
