Lavish spending, sex make for juicy battle between Swedish countess and CEO

(Newser) – The demands of a Swedish countess looking for a $100 million divorce settlement from her CEO husband are making headlines, ABC reports. Marie Douglas-David’s pursuit of $53,000 in weekly expenses stands out during a time when many are downplaying lavish spending. “She threatened him with a mud fight if he did not give her everything she ever asked for,” said George David’s attorney.

Douglas-David, who married the United Technologies chief in 2002, notes in her filing that her weekly expenses “may seem high”—for perspective, her $4,500 in clothing and $8,000 in travel per week is the equivalent of flying from New York to Sweden and buying 13 pairs of Gap jeans every day. Adding spice: Each side claims cheating, sex scandals, and multiple divorce filings during their roller-coaster relationship.

Nobody's going to have much sympathy for this woman who's going to have to struggle by with only $38 million. It sounds like a marriage made in hell anyway. - Raoul Felder, celebrity divorce lawyer

It is possible to get divorced almost anywhere and keep those things private. Only when there's the intent to manipulate a person or system that this unseemly kind of testimony becomes public. - Anne Dranginis, attorney for George David

This is boring and only proves old men should beware of young chickies who claim to love them. A dose of reality. I am so bored with this story. Why does the press keep covering it?

$53,000 a week. I pray she doesn't get anywhere near that much. With so many people truly in need of the basics, clean water, food, shelter her request comes off as obscene. She needs to take that $8000.00 travel money and visit countries where clean water is a dream and clothing except for rags don't exist. It's impossible for me to be sympathetic to her.
