(Newser) Guiding Light, the CBS soap that began on radio 72 years ago, will air for the last time Sept. 18, the New York Post reports. Like many daytime serials, Guiding Light has been battling falling ratings. It has been on the chopping block since last year, when its revamp as a half-hour show with a reality feel failed to draw more viewers.

Wow that is a surprise. 72 years total radio & tv. Soap or not that's a great run. I'm sure the fans are going to be sad.

This is revolting! The show has been getting better everyday now with the return of core characters and decent writing. No one has given it a chance. Its only publicity has been the return of Grant Alexander and they haven't given him time to bring things around.
