(Newser) – The unemployment rate now stands at a 25-year high of 8.5%, but the nation's CEOs say it's only going to get worse. Nearly three-quarters of the leaders of the nation's biggest companies expect to lay off more workers in the next 6 months, USA Today reports. That percentage—71%—is up 11 points from November and is the highest since the survey of the Business Roundtable began in 2002.

They don't care. They can parachute out of the company and go somewhere else.

See this is a very fundamental shift in the way America does business. We have all heard the mantra of "let's return to the '50s". I'm too young to remember first-hand. But my impression is that the '50s started the era of consumerism and greed-based earnings -we won't get into racism here, although it was a significant part of our economy. Think about shows/movies set in the '50s: Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Grease, etc. Lots of people owned businesses: Cunningham Hardware, Al's Diner, etc. How many of them were the CEO/COO/CFO/CIO/CTO of a huge multinational corporation. The faceless, soulless, disconnected leadership of our companies see only ONE thing, CASH. ME, ME, ME!!! How much can I make. See in the fifties, and prior, most people worked in the town they lived, or close to it. When you work in a place you care nothing about, and care nothing about the people, you disconnect the importance of the work from the importance of the WORKER. How many jobs could be spared by setting compensation (wages, bonuses, stock options, etc.) FOR EVERYONE to sensible levels. We are in the age of me and mine. Now who thinks shows like Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous was beneficial to our society? All we have now is more executives (and their spouses) wanting ANOTHER yacht/villa/summer home.

How about a CEO layoff, get in touch with the Board, if they do nothing how about the Dept of Labor, and White House. These CEO's are pampered pussy's, I would challenge everyone of them to take no salary or bonus or perks for 5 years to payback what they taken from employees and shareholders.
