Tax-Day 'Tea Parties' Test Aversion to Obama Spending

Tens of thousands set to attend nationwide demonstrations

(Newser) – Fiscal conservatives across the country will reenact Revolutionary history today with tea parties in every state to protest taxes and increased spending, ABC News reports. Tens of thousands are registered to attend in major cities, testing whether anti-Obama budget sentiment, which has picked up steam on the Internet, with help from Fox News, is  “the beginning of conservative online grassroots politics,” says a Republican Internet strategist.

The demonstrations aren’t explicitly backing either party—in fact, “it’s almost libertarian,” said a GOP consultant. But some key Republicans are supporting the idea, with members of Congress attending events. The concept was sparked by CNBC personality Rick Santelli’s February attack on President Obama, in which he suggested hauling “derivative securities” into Lake Michigan.

We definitely have people that are going to come dressed in historical costume. People are definitely bringing tea.

Well, I guess I've learned "some history", SPH, maybe not as much as you. Are you a history professor?

There's nothing temporary about nationalization. Do you really think when everything's better, the government will just hand everything back over? I need power, but I'll give it right back when I'm done.... I promise.

yeah, I hear ya. we're creating an artificially supported, zombie financial industry. The temporary nationalization and liquidation of assets approach probably was a better solution, but it has the "socialism" stigma unduly attached to it.
